Vineyard

This small familiar cellar is aware about the importance of the quality of the grapes in order to elaborate great wines. For this reason they have their own vineyards from which they elaborate the wines they commercialize.

Climate:
Continental with an Atlantc influence. Characterized by strong thermal oscillations and irregular raifall (average anual is 420 l/m2)
Soil:
The territory corresponds the Miocene, formed by tertiary and quaternary silts. Without organic material, it contains pebbles, which contributes to drainage and spreading.
Altitude:
About 700-800 metres.
Vineyard surface:
15 hectares, some of them almost centenary.
Plantation density and water pipe system:
2.222 stock per hectare (3m x 1,5m espalier-trained) for newer vineyards of less than 25 years, used for the rosé wines. 1.333 stock per hectare (3m x 2.5m head-pruned) for the oldest ones, used for elaborating aged wines.

Our average for the last years is 3,000 hectolitre per hectare approximately.
Grapes varieties:
Red:
  • Tempranillo or Tinta del País: Considered a main variety in Cigales DO, it occupies 85% of our production. Its main characteristics are excellent quality, very aromatic, colour (being responsible for the purple tones of the wines) and rich extract.
  • Merlot: coming from the Bordeaux region, it is excellent for aging wines. It represents 3% of our vintage (experimental variety).
White:
  • Verdejo: It occupies 5% of our production. It is used with a mixture of other varieties to obtain rosé, adding its aromatic potential and brihtness.
  • Albillo: Used in the elaboration of rosé, as its must is very sweet and aromatic, adding a great fineness to the wines. It represents 5% of our production.
